PLAAS now part of 'Land Deal Politics Initiative' network
PLAAS is part of a new network entitled the 'Land Deal
Politics Initiative'
together with the Institute for Development Studies (United Kingdom),
St Mary's University (Canada), Institute of Social Studies
(Netherlands) and University of North Carolina (United States). Its
focus is on 'global land grabs', which has become a catch-all phrase to
describe and analyze the current explosion of (trans) national
commercial land transactions.
The objective of this initiative is to provide a global platform and network to generate solid evidence on this phenomenon through detailed, field-based research. The LDPI will soon be issuing a call for proposals for small grants to research and write up details of major land deals around the world. PLAAS will be administering the small grants in Africa.
