This project, carried out in collaboration with the National Botanical Institute (NBI), assessed the extent and severity of dryland degradation in South Africa, analysing the causes (both ecological and socio-economic), and making recommendations on appropriate policies to combat degradation to decision makers at national, provincial and local levels. Two research fellows from PLAAS undertook a review of the socio-economic dimensions of land degradation.
