Biography
Andrew Bennie has an MA in Development and Environmental Sociology, and is currently writing his PhD on ‘Food sovereignty, the agrarian question and class politics in South Africa’ at Wits University, Johannesburg. His research work has focused mainly on the politics of food systems, land, extractivism, and climate justice. His scholarly work is informed by a deep commitment to the interests of the subaltern, justice and social transformation. He has an activist history in cooperative and solidarity economy support, community organising, popular education, support to anti-extractivist struggles and coordinating national campaigning on food and climate justice issues, and has been active in the African food sovereignty movement through research and advocacy.
