Cagla Ay

Biography

Çagla Ay is a Ph.D. student in the Anthropology Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  Her dissertation project investigates the discrepancies and inequalities that appear in the intersections of science, capital, and agriculture. It does so through a multi-sited ethnography centered on an orange cultivar while moving across orange groves, citrus laboratories, and archival records in southern Turkey and Riverside California. Çagla was selected as a Mellon Ph.D. fellow for 2022-23. Through this fellowship, she became a part of The World Studies Interdisciplinary Project (WSIP) which establishes an international research collective that works on decolonial paradigms.
