Dr James Murombedzi

Dr James Murombedzi is a political economist with research interests in climate change policy and governance, land and natural resources governance, and sustainable development. He is currently the Senior Political Affairs Officer (Climate Policy and Governance), and Head of the African Climate Policy Centre of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Dr Murombedzi has previously worked in international organizations on pan African programmes on land and forest governance, natural resources and sustainable development, and energy and environment. Among his recent positions, he was the UNDP (Liberia) Senior Technical Adviser (Energy and Environment), Co-Director of the Responsive Forest Governance Initiative of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA); Southern Africa Regional Director of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); and Programme Officer for Southern Africa (Environment and Development) of the Ford Foundation. He has also held academic positions at the University of Zimbabwe. His current work focuses on climate change governance frameworks, national climate change policies and strategies, and the climate change and sustainable development nexus.
