Biography
Professor Issa Shivji is Professor Emeritus in the School of Law, University of Dar es Salaam. He is a retired Professor of Public Law and first incumbent of the Julius Nyerere Professorial Chair in Pan-African Studies, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In 1991 he led the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters which made a comprehensive report on land reform in the country.
Professor Shivji has authored over a dozen books and many monographs and numerous published articles. His latest book is a three volume biography of the country’s first president Julius Nyerere, authored in collaboration with two colleagues called Development as Rebellion, (Dar es Salaam 2020) published by Mkuki na Nyota.
